School Crossing Patrol Officer

About the role:

As a School Crossing Patrol Officer, you’ll play a key part in your community by assisting children to cross the road safely on their way to and from school, this is achieved by standing in the middle of the road and stopping traffic when the children arrive at your crossing point.

We are looking for someone who is friendly, has great communication skills and enjoys working with children. You’ll be happy to work outside in all weathers and prepared to take control of any situations that may arise involving drivers and their vehicles. You must be reliable and good timekeeping is critical. No previous experience or qualifications are required although you must be able to record details of any incidents that may arise.  Uniform, equipment, and training will be provided.

Totternhoe Speedwatch

Can you spare some time for the Totternhoe Speed watch team?
The Speedwatch group has been operating in Totternhoe for over five years and we have noticed some reduction in speeding as a result. We know that in villages where Speedwatch has been operating for some considerable time speeding has been significantly reduced and we would like to get to this stage in Totternhoe. We can only do this with more volunteers as a more regular roadside presence will act as a deterrent.
Volunteers can offer as little as one hour a month and there is no obligation to any long term commitment. Volunteers are fully trained and are insured by the police.
We work with the Parish Council, Central Bedfordshire Council (CBC) and the police to address road safety issues. The police have now reinforced the work we are doing by erecting “Police Speed Check Area” notices.
PLEASE consider joining our group. If you want to find out more send me an email and I will contact you. Virpi Kelly:
