History

Welcome to Totternhoe's History page

We believe that History is such a valuable aspect of the curriculum for our young historians to engage in. It teaches children key skills to analyse, explore and construct their own opinions and ideas upon significant events in their own personal timelines and then as they move through the school, use these skills and apply them to different historical time periods and events.  We feel that our curriculum is diverse and provides children with the opportunities to build upon their knowledge and skills when they reach secondary school.

Our subject-specific knowledge progression is mapped on Curriculum Maestro for history. We will upload it here soon.

Please contact the school if you would like more details.

Our vocabulary progression is a working document as we adapt to the needs of the children. When we make changes we will let you know on class dojo so you can take a look at the updated version.

In the Spring term year, 1 - 6 will have geography themed lessons. Please check out our Geography page for the knowledge organisers for the Spring term.

My History Project 2021

When the children of Totternhoe were faced with yet another lockdown, we cast our minds back to the experiences we have had over the year of 2020 and 2021. We once again became Historians  and  created our own interpretation of how history has changed during the period of lockdown. Children created; video journals, interviews, poems, timelines, photo books, collages etc to show their very own experiences of living through this pandemic. Teachers were OVERWHELMED by the amazing work produced! We are now in the process of compiling our very own History book full of the amazing work produced! Well done Team Totternhoe!

Totternhoe Timecapsules

During the period of lockdown, we set our pupils the challenge of becoming Historians themselves and documenting their experiences of lockdown. We set ourselves this challenge to see what had changed, how did we feel about this and also to give our pupils time to reflect. It provided a great comparison to other key historians and historical moments - would they have felt similarly? How did they document their historical events? Below please find some examples of time capsules that have been created by pupils at Totternhoe.

History Local Resident 'Visit'

The current circumstances have not dampened our children's love of history and their desire to explore our area further! As part of their topic 'Street Detectives' KS1 held an interview via Zoom with a local resident of the village who has lived here for over 30 years! They asked some amazing questions to delve deeper and understand the changes over time to their local community.
