Our School Council 2019-2020 Our school council wants to help all the children in our school make Totternhoe a safe, happy and caring place where everyone tries their hardest to respect and look after each other.
Totternhoe School Council is currently made up of members from Holly, Rowan, Oak and Sycamore classes. The present school councillors were elected in mid-September 2019 and will serve on the council until July 2020.
Elections for Cherry class councillors will take place in January 2020, once the children have settled and understand how they can represent their peers and the school.
Our Councillors are:
Holly Year 1: Ava and Pearl
Rowan Year 2: Ella and Ralphy
Oak Year 3/4: Aiden and Callie
Sycamore Year 4/5: Georgie and Jase
Look out for our pictures on the Noticeboard in the corridor! COMING SOON!!
We usually try to hold our meetings on alternate Thursday afternoons. The chairperson leads the meetings, with a bit of help from Mrs Mitchelmore. Our secretary makes notes during the meetings and then types these so that everyone has a copy .
What we do:
Pupil Voice: We are often asked for our opinions about areas of school life, from our learning in different areas, to our views about the school grounds and environment. If we have any ideas for ways to improve our school, then we can discuss those.
We have helped to choose the new trim trail equipment, making sure that all the children in school had opportunity to have their say and vote for their favourite items. We were not able to have everything that we would have liked, but we are really pleased with all the fantastic improvements that have been made.
School Council have discussed and helped to choose the wording of our school vision, so that all the children can understand what Totternhoe CE Academy stands for.
Shortly, we shall be thinking about which Bible story will really help to explain our vision statement.
Recycling: We are responsible for the school recycling scheme and have to make sure that the orange bags are emptied every week into our large recycling bin .
We like to encourage others to help the environment by recycling as much as possible. We will carry on our recycling at school.
Fundraising: We also like to help other people and together we discuss which charities we should help each year.
School Council have helped the PA with the recent MacMillan Coffee Afternoon on 27th September. About £220 was raised for this worthwhile cause, and many adults , and children, enjoyed delicious cakes and goodies. Thank you to everyone who helped!
Last summer we held a cake sale and raised nearly £70 for a charity connected with a former family of our school. We were very pleased that we could help them in this small way.
We try to organise fundraising activities each term. If you have ideas about which charities we should support, please share your ideas with us.
If you have anything you would like the School Council to discuss, you need to talk to your councillors, or use the School Council Ideas Book in your classroom.
