Academic Year 2020 - 2021

Christmas House Challenges 2020
EYFS and KS1 took part in a House Christmas Challenge, and all showed super teamwork and a great sporting attitude during their physical tasks. These included Feed the Reindeer, Snowman’s Nose Relay, Throwing Snowballs, Sleigh Racing, Wreath Toss and Elf Training! The children all put in their best efforts and were great at cheering each other on.

KS2 teamed up for a Christmas Quiz, working together to work out the answers to questions about Christmas songs, films, traditions and the First Christmas. The children really enjoyed pitting their wits against each other and showed a great sense of team spirit, as well as a healthy amount of competitiveness!

The House Points from both House Events were added to the House Points that have been earned over this whole term, and the totals are as follows:

Air House - 1727 House Points

Earth House - 1867 House Points

Fire House - 1953 ½ House Points

and the overall winners this term are

Water House with 2012 House Points!!

Well done  Water House!

This is a huge amount of House Points! All of the children have worked so hard this term to earn House Points with their behaviour, their values, their efforts and their team spirit. Well done to all of you!

Sponsored Walk  Event 2020
We held our first House Event    in October, as part of the Sponsored Walk, with each lap completed earning 1 House Point.    After lots of counting and adding up, I am delighted to share the following results

Air House - 503 House Points
Earth House - 546 House Points
Fire House - 562 House Points

and the winners are
Water House with 585 House Points!!
Well done Water House!

A superb effort from all children and, with preschool joining in as well, they walked a huge total of 2252 laps of the school grounds!
We have worked out that 4 laps equaled 1 mile, so the children walked (well, ran!) a grand total of 563 miles! An amazing accomplishment by all!

Houses

At  Totternhoe CE Academy we use a  House system.  All the children and staff in school have been allocated a house and spend some time each half term in their house, building team skills and working together to complete challenges.

Throughout the year, children can earn individual house points for academic achievements, including showing great effort , and can earn house points for displaying our Christian Values towards their friends, peers and adults in the school.

These individual house points are then carried over into the main house  tally and each week we announce the running totals and celebrate which house is the winner. We also celebrate the half termly and termly winners. At the end of the year we celebrate the overall winner and they win the House Cup, which is decorated with ribbons in the  winning house colours.

The School Council decided on house names. They chose  :

Fire
Water
Air

Earth

HOUSE CAPTAINS AND VICE CAPTAINS
The house and vice captains are decided  each year by a vote amongst the house members. Hustings are held where each  candidate answered questions before a closed ballot was taken.  After the lockdown cut the last academic year short, we decided to carry the House Captains and Vice Captains over into this academic year. Two Vice Captains have left so those Houses have chosen new Vice Captains using the Voting system.

House Events planned for this academic year...

Sponsored Walk
Christmas Quiz
Pancake Races
Easter Challenge
Half termly Value  Tree competitions
Sports Day

House names and badges
When we introduced the Houses, the first task for the  newly formed houses  was to  design  a house logo.  The winning designs were made into  the House Captain and Vice Captain badges.

The winning logos were created in 2016 by:

Fire - Kaya (Y3)

Water - Holly (Y2)

Air - Jade (Y2)

Earth - Bojta (Y2)
