2019 - 2021 Reading Ambassador
Due to Covid, Darcy will be returning as our Reading Ambassador this year as she didn't have the opportunity to fulfill her role fully last year. This is what she had to say...
What did I do last year?
I was looking after the reading shed, I dressed up as a character for World Book Day and sorted out the vouchers for getting a free book or £1 off a book for each class. I read books to younger children from the reading shed too. My friends helped me as well - they were teaching one child at a time . I gave out house points for children reading.
What am I looking forward to this year?
I'm looking forward to doing some more jobs. I'm also looking forward to looking after the reading shed - it was fun!

MyBookBlog

To increase the children's comprehension and encourage their love of reading all of the children from years 2-4 have their own MyBookBlog page. Here, they can blog, collect facts, take comprehension quizzes and learn new vocabulary linked to books they choose to read themselves. Take a look at the books on offer in the school library, encourage your child/children to talk about and blog on the books they have read and tease out all that vocabulary when talking to them. Year 1 also have a class account, preparing them for their individual accounts once they reach Year 2.

Teach Your Monster to Read

In Reception and Year 1, we are also teaching our monsters to read at school and at home. Each child has their own login details and can earn certificates and letters from their monsters. If you need reminding of your child's login details, please speak to your child's teacher.

Oakley - Pets as Therapy Reading Dog
We are VERY excited that we will be visited by a school therapy dog as part of the Pets as Therapy Read2Dogs scheme. Jacqui will be visiting us with her dog, Oakley each week. Most weeks they will spend some time with our Squirrel Squad and then visit another class.
How it works
Most adults are apprehensive about speaking in public as it can be very daunting and young people are no different. Research shows that young people can become nervous and stressed when reading to others in a group. However, when a PAT Dog enters the group, children often become less stressed, less self-conscious and more confident as the dogs are non-judgemental. Before long the young people are starting to look forward to the reading experience as they are going to read to their new friend.
PAT Dogs provide comfort, encourage positive social behaviours, enhance self-esteem, motivate speech and inspire young people to have fun.
The children will also be told how much Oakley enjoys hearing stories. The children will be allowed to sit so that they can interact with Oakley.
